Discrimination

People with mental illness are often denied housing. Many people who have been diagnosed as mentally ill don't understand the treatment that they receive from other people. The mistreatment is often a violation of their civil rights. Landlords tend to invade their privacy or enter their apartment without permission and they are often harassed in other ways.

Discrimination against the mentally ill is very common. Few landlords are willing to rent to a person with a mental illness. Discrimination is in the words that people say, they way they conduct their business, the way they build their business.

Discrimination is when a person is told that there are no apartments available when there are apartments available to rent. Discrimination is when you are asked to pay an additional security deposit based on your disability.

Discrimination is when you are asked questions of a personal nature such as: What type of medicine do you take? Why are you disabled? What is your disability? If these questions are not asked of other tenants, but are only asked of people with disabilities, it is considered discrimination.

Just goes to show you that we who are labelled seem to suffer from exactly the same "delusions" no matter where we are in the world. It is amazing isn't it? Perhaps a little TOO amazing?
